Energy fuels our lives: it powers our lights, runs our cars and heats our homes and the appetite for energy is growing dramatically. Worldwide energy consumption is projected to rise more than 50 percent by 2030. We’re going to need more energy, in every form available, to meet this demand.

Canada has the second largest reserves of crude oil in the world, because of our oil sands. We also have an abundance of natural gas. However, our resources are among the most challenging and costly to develop.

Oil and natural gas companies employ 500,000 people directly and indirectly across Canada. Skilled tradespeople, such as carpenters, pipe fitters and electricians, as well as those who work in company offices, such as project managers, engineers and geoscientists, are among those professions that work in the oil and gas industry.
