Position: Advisor, Oil Sands Communications
Start Date: March 2015
Salary Type: Full-time salary position

Position summary

The Oil Sands Communications Advisor works closely with the Manager of Oil Sands Communications and the Oil Sands and Communications Departments to develop and implement an integrated oil sands communications program that focuses on business goals of competitiveness and market access. This is a position that provides leadership and experience to the CAPP organization and plays a key role in ensuring that communications related to the oil sands, and their interaction with other components of the upstream oil and gas industry, are managed in the best interests of CAPP member companies.

Responsibilities

To help drive competitiveness, the Oil Sands Communications Advisor, with support from the Manager of Oil Sands Communications, will:

  • Work with the oil sands team to develop communication plans for policy priorities
  • Identify and manage issues related to policy priorities
  • Provide advice and counsel to the oil sands team as they develop policies

To enhance oil market access, the Oil Sands Communications Advisor will:

  • Direct development and maintenance of collateral material including fact books, fact sheets and PowerPoint presentations
  • Identify and contribute to content updates for digital assets
  • Develop and implement communication plans for key initiatives
  • Support outreach activities by coordinating attendance and development of collateral materials including samples and displays

Additional duties

  • Regular liaison with CAPP staff and members
  • Develop and present materials to CAPP committees
  • Liaise with partner agencies, in particular COSIA, and feed information back into CAPP

Qualifications

  • Minimum five to seven years experience in corporate communications, preferably in the energy industry
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications or related field
  • Demonstrated understanding of research techniques, media relations, social media, advertising and campaigns
  • Experience in communicating to large, dispersed organizations
  • Experience advancing communications plan and projects in ambiguous environments
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with ability to work in fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent presentation skills and the ability to make complex ideas easy to understand
  • Ability to deliver a wide variety of assignments and projects
  • Strong prioritization and project management skills
