EDMONTON — There was less news coverage of the oilsands in August compared with July, and the biggest energy story of the month was the approval by the U.S. State Department of Enbridge’s Alberta Clipper pipeline, according to the Canada West Foundation’s media monitoring report released Tuesday.
The report found environmental coverage increased in all outlets, but economic coverage dropped significantly, resulting in fewer oilsands stories overall in August.
Protests once again dominated the environmental coverage of the oilsands in August, and the deal between PetroChina and the Athabasca Oil Sands Corporation was a major story.
This report is the fourth in a series of reports tracking coverage of the oilsands through the traditional and Internet media.
These media monitors track how the oilsands are being perceived from both an environmental and economic perspective.
