Our People at Work

Every day, thousands of committed employees across Canada contribute to the growth and development of our industry, making an important contribution to Canada’s economy.

People in the oil & gas workforceOur people are vital to our industry’s ability to grow,
operate and contribute to Canada's economy.

The oil sands alone are expected to generate more than five million person-years of employment. One third of these jobs will be created outside Alberta, and four out of every five jobs will be outside the oil sector. For example, many components that are vital to the industry — such as tires, trucks, gauges, valves, pumps — are produced by manufacturers in Central Canada. In fact, 16 per cent of the jobs created by the oil sands are in Ontario.

Room for Growth

As our industry continues to grow, so does the requirement for experienced and skilled industry professionals. This is of particular concern with oil sands development and expansion. Our industry is in need of more workers – from skilled trades like electricians, welders and boilermakers, to geoscience professionals and engineers, to technicians and technologists. To meet these demands, we work with organizations like the Petroleum Human Resources Council of Canada to help find solutions to this growing issue.
