A+ for Energy provides grants to teachers to implement creative energy education projects in their classrooms. Successful applicants also receive a scholarship to attend a three-day Energy Education Conference, hosted in partnership with Inside Education, and an energy education tool kit for their classroom.

Since its inception in 2007, BP Canada has invested more than $1 million in grants, scholarships and classroom materials. This program is available to all Alberta teachers from kindergarten to grade 12, in all disciplines.

The successful A+ for Energy applicants are invited to attend an Energy Education Conference in late August to help motivate and prepare them for the launch of their projects in the upcoming school year. The conference is designed specifically for A+ for Energy winning teachers to provide them with a foundation in energy education and to introduce them to new education tools. The conference also provides the opportunity for participants to collaborate with other A+ winners from across the province to help plan for the implementation of their A+ for Energy projects.

“Thanks to the A+ for Energy grant our students are on their way to becoming environmentally aware Canadians with the capacity to change their own attitudes and approaches towards the environment while encouraging others to change as well,” said Jim Burchell, Principal, Douglas Harkness School. “It has been an exciting event filled year of learning that could never have unfolded as it did without the support of the A+ for Energy grant.”
