Air & Climate Change

Canada’s oil and gas industry is working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through innovation and technology.

Air & Climate Change Issues

Greenhouse Gas Emissions

The Issue

Production and consumption of fossil fuels, such as oil and gas, produces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

What We’re Doing

Canadians expect the oil and gas industry to do its part in reducing emissions. We’re focused on finding new technologies – like carbon capture and storage, and Toe-to-Heel Air Injection (THAI™) – to make that happen.

Sour Gas

The Issue

Sour gas is a naturally occurring gas and can be found in numerous deposits in Western Canada, particularly in Alberta. Sour gas contains hydrogen sulphide (H2S). In high concentrations H2S is toxic to humans and animals.

What We’re Doing

Many communities are concerned about the safety of sour gas production. We work closely with those communities to protect their safety and respond to their concerns.
