Our industry's top priority is the health and safety of the public and employees.
The Issue: Guarding Your Health
Your Safety Matters to Us
We understand that people have concerns and questions about oil and gas development. We want to hear your concerns and talk openly and honestly about the issues so that we can address them where needed and provide more information when necessary. Our industry is built by many, and our first priority is the health and well-being of all people in the communities in which we live and operate.
What We’re Doing: Ensuring We’re Always Prepared
Emergency Response Plans (ERPs)
ERPs are designed to ensure your safety. ERPs are a vital tool we use to protect people in areas that surround oil and natural gas operations. ERPs do this by addressing public and facility protection, and ensuring that all emergency responders have a clear plan of action. In the event of an emergency, you can rest assured that we have your health and safety needs top of mind.
Provincial regulators like Alberta's Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) require all oil and gas companies to establish and maintain ERPs for their operations.

Sharing resources
In addition, Western Canada Spill Services (WCSS) has assembled groups of companies that share resources and expertise to develop industry standards and practices, to ensure we respond quickly to any spills. The WCSS provides cost-effective, integrated, emergency response capabilities to the upstream industry in Western Canada.
Do Canada's Oil Sands Cause Cancer?
"A study of the cancer incidence in Fort Chipewyan finds levels of the rare cancer cholangiocarcinoma are not higher than expected. Of the six suspected cases reported by community physician Dr. John O’Connor, two are confirmed cases of cholangiocarcinoma. Upon review, three of the reported cases were found to be other cancers; another was not a cancer."
