"What we find does not work, and frankly shouldn't work, is the industry telling people what's good for them. We have to listen, we have to understand the perception of stakeholders. We have to tell our story in a way that engages, and we have to have a dialogue, and we have to work our way through what are very difficult and challenging issues."
- David Collyer, President of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers

CAPP President David Collyer participates in Issue Session:
Road map to efficient energy policies
Developing energy policies and practices capable of achieving energy and climate sustainability on a global scale is a complex process requiring cooperation among all stakeholders: governments, businesses, technology promoters, economists and non-governmental organisations. To further this process it is helpful to assess different energy policies and practices already in place and use them to benchmark achievements in this regard. The benchmarking exercise can also help identify vulnerabilities in the energy system and suggest ways to overcome them. (src: www.wecmontreal2010.ca )

Suncor Energy CEO Rick George addresses World Energy Congress
"As we continue to emerge from a worldwide recession — far more slowly than any of us would like — the energy sector is one of the stronger signposts of hope. For the global economy to fully recover, our industry must continue to grow and innovate."

CAPP was asked:
What are the biggest issues facing the energy sector today?
While energy demand in the developed world is beginning to level off for the first time since the Industrial Revolution, energy demand in the world’s emerging economies is just getting started. To meet the world’s growing demand, we are going to need all forms of energy supply developed responsibly, including Canadian oil sands and unconventional natural gas.
However, supply availability is really only the first hurdle. Energy must also be accessible and affordable so we can support economic growth and our quality of life. Competitiveness and ensuring the social licence to operate are key issues that must be addressed for Canada’s oil and gas sector to fully realize its potential. Responsible Canadian energy means delivering reliable and secure supply, contributing to economic growth and continuously improving environmental performance. Canadians believe we can achieve the right balance, and we will.
