CAPP Statement on first LNG agreement between Canada and a European buyer

“As the first LNG agreement between Canada and a European buyer, this deal strengthens the commercial foundation of the proposed Ksi Lisims LNG project which, pending a final investment decision, could become the country’s second-largest export facility. Long-term LNG agreements like this can underpin economic growth for decades and help position Canada among the world’s leading exporters if additional projects advance. We need to continue to work with governments to ensure a competitive regulatory and fiscal framework is in place to ensure these potential projects get built here in Canada.

At a time when global demand for secure, responsibly produced energy is rising, Canada has a clear opportunity to play a larger role in supporting energy security for our trading partners. Expanding our relationship with Germany helps build momentum for the investment and infrastructure needed to deliver that opportunity—creating jobs, attracting capital, and generating economic benefits for Canadians.”
