CAPP Statement on Prime Minister Carney and the new Cabinet

“We are at a critical moment in Canadian history. Prime Minister Carney and his new cabinet have come into government amid a trade war with our closest trading partner while the President of the United States is openly threatening our country’s very sovereignty.

Canada is in a precarious position partly because for too long the federal government neglected the importance of our own energy and economic security. The past decade has been marked by an ever-changing policy environment that has led to cancelled or stalled major, nation-building projects. Projects that would have encouraged growth in our economy while diversifying our global customer base for Canadian oil and natural gas.

Canada has seen its reputation as a place for investment and opportunity slide to the point where we are projected to be one of the worst performing countries in terms of productivity and per capita GDP growth among all OECD nations.

Following the imminent federal election, the next Government of Canada will need to address these critical issues with urgency, both for Canadians and for the oil and natural gas industry. With the right policies and necessary infrastructure, the energy sector is ready to drive new investments, create and support high-paying jobs, and ensure a stable supply of affordable energy for Canadians and countries around the world.”
