“On behalf of the entire team at the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Niilo Edwards’ family and loved ones.
Niilo Edwards has spent the last 20 years working with organizations to advance Indigenous business capacity and participation in major project development. Since 2017, he has served as Chief Executive Officer of the First Nations Major Projects Coalition, a national collective group of First Nations made up of elected councils, hereditary Chiefs, Tribal Councils and Development Corporations, advancing participation and equity positions in major projects. As such, he championed government programs such as the Indigenous Loan Guarantee Program, opening avenues for Indigenous communities to access capital, fostering economic reconciliation and self-determination.
His meaningful work and achievements towards the enhancement of the well-being of its members brought forward the collective success of Indigenous peoples. Niilo was truly special and will be sorely missed by everyone who had the privilege to cross his path. He will be remembered as an exemplary leader, colleague, and friend.”
