CAPP issues statement on Nebraska Supreme Court’s decision to uphold approval of Keystone XL

August 23, 2019 - Calgary, Alberta

On August 23, 2019, the Nebraska Supreme Court announced its decision to uphold the approval of Keystone XL. CAPP has issued the following statement:

Today’s decision by the Nebraska Supreme Court is an important step forward to expanding market access for Canada’s oil and natural gas resources. The decision to uphold approval of Keystone XL is a clearer path forward to getting Canadian oil to the U.S. Gulf Coast, and will relieve existing bottlenecks on already-constrained pipeline systems.

Market diversification is important for Canada. Global energy demand is rising and Canada could help supply the world with the energy it needs for tomorrow. In order to do that, it is essential we have pipelines like Keystone XL to move our product to market.

Just as importantly however, Canada needs to ensure its own domestic legislation and policies allow our oil and natural gas to access markets in all directions throughout to become a global supplier of choice.
