CAPP Issues Statement Related to Offshore Environment, Health and Safety
December 4, 2019 – St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador
The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) has issued the following statement in response to a letter from the CEO of the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board:
“The safety of our people and the protection of the environment is of paramount importance to the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers and our members. As an industry we are disappointed with our recent environment, health and safety performance offshore Atlantic Canada and are committed to doing better.
Newfoundland and Labrador’s offshore producers and explorers, through CAPP, are assessing all of the actions outlined in Mr. Tessier’s letter to fully explore all possible areas of opportunity. We can say unequivocally that our offshore workers, and the men and women leading them today, do not allow production pressures to impact decisions related to safety and the environment.
Our member companies will continue to implement corrective actions as investigations into recent events continue and will rapidly share that information across industry. CAPP and our members are also collectively developing a basin wide improvement action plan to enhance our existing practices for collaboration and information sharing. Collectively, we are committed to ensuring we achieve the highest levels of safety and environmental performance.”
