CAPP Statement: Supreme Court of Canada upholds Constitutionality of Federal Carbon Tax

March 25, 2021, Calgary, AB

Canada’s oil and natural gas industry continues to develop and deploy world leading technology to reduce emissions and position Canada as a leader in responsibly produced energy.

Based on the Supreme Court of Canada’s decision, it will be important for the federal government and provinces to work together to support Canada’s environmental and economic objectives. In Canada, each province has very different opportunities to mitigate climate change based on their unique circumstances, and we support continued flexibility to allow for provincial input.

The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers will continue to engage in constructive, solutions-focused dialogue to develop sound policies that achieve global emissions reductions in the most efficient, cost-effective way.
