This module is intended to apply to the operation of tail gas incinerators at sour gas plants in the upstream oil and gas industry (UOG). However, it could be applied to any sulphur recovery unit tail gas incinerator such as those used at bitumen upgraders. In Canada, there are a limited number of sour gas plants, however, these plants tend to be large and are energy intensive with the result that they consume about 20% of all the fuel gas used in the UOG. Tail gas incinerators are a major consumer of energy within a sour gas plant, typically consuming 25% of the total fuel gas used.
