This plan provides sector-specific information related to water conservation, efficiency and productivity (CEP), the three parameters used by the Alberta Water Council to guide efforts to improve water use in Alberta. The CEP plan provides factual information regarding the upstream oil and gas sector's historical water use and current projections for future water use; demonstrates industry best management practices related to water management; identifies practical opportunities for future water use efficiencies; and identifies potential measures that may contribute to Alberta's goal of a 30% improvement in overall water efficiency and productivity from 2005 levels by 2015. The plan promotes the use of less water to achieve similar economic productivity.
