This guide is designed to provide a broad introduction to the dangers posed by wildfires and smoke. An active wildfire front is often seen as the main risk to health and safety from a wildfire. Yet the smoke from a wildfire also poses a serious health and safety risk, and can lead to widespread evacuations and harm. During past wildfire incidents, heavy smoke from wildfires has forced the evacuation of nonessential employees and contractors. The guide is designed to give field personnel basic information to prepare for, recognize, assess and respond appropriately to the threat from wildfires and smoke.
