Water is used during hydraulic fracturing operations to assist in the development of natural gas. The amount of water available for use by industry is allocated and regulated by the BC Oil and Gas Commission. Producers are developing technologies and finding ways to reduce and reuse water, while exploring the use of alternatives. Protecting water resources is a priority for Canada’s oil and natural gas industry.
