Refineries turn crude oil into usable products such as transportation fuels – gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuels – plus other materials such as asphalt for roads, and petrochemicals like ethylene and polyethylene for making products from plastics to fabrics. Oil and natural gas are also the building blocks for numerous other products: plastics, clothing, sports equipment, household products, personal care products, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and fertilizer, to name a few.
