CAPP Statement RE: U.S. Senate Committee Hearing to Examine the U.S.-Canada Energy and Minerals Partnership

May 17, 2022, Calgary, Alberta

The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) fully supports the United States and Canada working together to enhance North American energy security and independence. The U.S. and Canada have a long-standing trade relationship that includes a highly integrated oil and natural gas system. This relationship has driven tremendous economic growth for decades, raising standards of living for Americans and Canadians alike.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine underscores the critical importance of the strong partnership between Canada and the U.S. that enables our two countries to supply reliable, safe, and responsibly produced energy to our NATO allies as well as other trading partners around the globe. This includes continental strategies that support infrastructure development and leverage our world-class technological and innovation capacity to drive down GHGs.

By building on our history of friendship and co-operation, industry and governments on both sides of the border can develop solutions that reduce domestic and global emissions while supporting energy affordability, security and economic prosperity. CAPP will continue to encourage efforts between the United States and Canada to achieve these critically important outcomes.

– Lisa Baiton, CAPP President and CEO
